OSRAM
OSRAM, a wholly-owned subsidiary
of SIEMENS, is one of the two leading lighting manufacturers.
Sales for the OSRAM group of companies worldwide in the year
ending September 2005 totalled 4.3 billions euro, 88 percent
of which came from outside Germany. OSRAM has developed from
a classic light bulb manufacturer into a high-tech company in
the lighting industry. Around 40% of sales came from innovative
products. It is the market leader in automotive lamps and has
a leading position in electronic control systems and semiconductors.
OSRAM employs more than 38,000 employees worldwide, supplies
|
customers in some
150 countries and has 49 production facilities in 19 countries.
OSRAM has been present in Asia for several decades. We
have companies and sales offices in 11 countries and 9
factories. OSRAM Asia Pacific was established in January
2006 to improve our presence and coordination of activities
in Asia Pacific with the global divisions and functions.

OSRAM Asia Pacific
Ltd., located in Hong Kong, is the Regional
Headquarters of OSRAM GmbH for the Asia Pacific Region. It
is responsible for the business development of OSRAM companies
in this region. The company also provides marketing, financial,
human resources, legal, purchasing and logistics support.
OSRAM Prosperity Co. Ltd. was
established as a sales and distribution joint-venture to market
OSRAM’s entire range of products in Hong Kong and Macau.
The majority of these products are imported from Germany,
although a growing number are imported from OSRAM's facilities
throughout Europe and the rest of the world, including China
and Indonesia.
For over 20 years, OSRAM has been recognized for its high-quality
products and has established close links with government sectors,
utility companies, major contractors and local dealers. OSRAM
currently holds a 22 per cent share in the local Hong Kong
market for imported lamps -- these can not only be found in
private households, government and utility offices, but also
in significant landmark developments, such as AIG Tower and
International Finance Centre. For Hong Kong International
Airport, OSRAM lamps were chosen for key lighting projects
inside the terminal buildings and the external runway. Additionally,
electronic ballasts from OSRAM can be found at the new Cheung
Ching Tunnel. In a retrofit program, 13 government hospitals
have been equipped with the new OSRAM T5 fluorescent lamps
and electronic ballasts.
In the retail sector, OSRAM lamps are sold in IKEA's three
outlets to complement their own lighting products.
OSRAM Lighting Control Systems Ltd.
(OLSC), a joint venture with a manufacturing facility in China,
sells and markets world-class electronic control gears for
China and overseas markets. The control gears are designed
not only to produce the same quantity of light as conventional
control gears, but also to produce energy savings of up to
75 per cent in fluorescent lamps. With high-operating frequency
and enhanced luminous efficiency, these gears also produce
high-quality flicker-free light that could otherwise not be
achieved.
In 1993, two joint ventures were established between General
Electronics (Overseas) Ltd. and OSRAM, with an office in Hong
Kong and a manufacturing facility in China employing more
than 4,000 people.
Since 2005
the China facility hosts a Design Center for electronic
control gears employing more than 50 engineers with the
mission to strengthen global development resources and
to capitalize on opportunities in the Chinese market.
