Partnership with St. James' Settlement

Since mid 2003, Siemens has developed a partnership working model with St. James’ Settlement. Through this partnership, a very close tie has been developed to plan, organize and implement various kinds of social service activities.

In terms of volunteering, St. James’ has provided volunteer training and coaching to Siemens’ volunteers. Simultaneously, Siemens has to encourage and support employees to perform volunteer work by setting up a volunteer team in order to provide social service to the needy in a more organized manner.

Regarding donations to the needy, St. James helps to align the service targets for Siemens to deliver social service to them. Siemens plays the role of donor in terms of cash, office equipment, mobile phones, or home appliances in order to offer required support to those in need.

With reference to mentoring, St. James provides venue and coordination support to Siemens’ volunteer activities while Siemens provides service to certain groups of service targets by sharing their business expertise.

Siemens have been co-organizing a number of social service activities with St. James’ Settlement. These included a Corporate Citizenship Dinner in August 2003 with 100 seniors being invited through St. James to attend the event. In November 2003, Siemens’ volunteers organized an event to be held in St. James’ center to celebrate the Senior Citizens’ Day with about 60 senior members. In January 2004, we have invited about 100 seniors through St. James’ to celebrate Chinese New Year together at a Chinese restaurant. In May 2004, some 60 senior members of St. James were invited to have a one-day tour in the New Territories with over 40 Siemens’ volunteers.
